Coalhouse Beer Academy
Our next installment of the Coalhouse Beer Academy is scheduled for February 18th @ 6:30pm. B. United returns with some great brews & a discussion on HOPS! Here is the description:
Most people think that hops are primarily used to bitter a beer – but hops actually have many other uses. In this workshop we will taste four beers that showcases the different uses of hops:
Kipling – Single Varietal Pale Ale with Nelson Sauvin hops. Golden blonde beer with an exquisite passionfruit, gooseberry and mango aroma. An initial sweetness and full body are balanced by a lasting grapefruit-like finish. The first beer in the UK to be brewed with the Nelson Sauvin hop from New Zealand.
Bitter & Twisted – A sharp, blond beer with a superb fresh hop profile. Hersbrucker, giving a hint of honey and the tang of grapefruit: Challenger, giving a spicy fruitiness like the “twist” of a lemon and finished with a pinch of Styrian.
Nigredo – A bottom fermented, hopped in the manner and quantity typical for a Dark IPA, but only German hops are used, including above all Hallertauer Mittelfrueh. The result is a BLACK IPA with a slight smokiness from the roasted hops.
Heller Bock “Saphir” – Heller Bock style beer Dry-Hopped with Saphir hops. Crisp with some candied notes while the hop bitterness definitely shines through.
